ROB ZOMBIE - HELLBILLY DELUXE

A track that mimics the album is the first point of call on this strange journey. Typical of metal/rock of today, of something that isn't quite music and somewhat irrelevant. This album being made after his White Zombie days obviously trying to show that he still has the old magic left in him.
Although it would be far to easy to brush aside Rob Zombie's lyrics as meaningless they often seem to out do the sound of the songs themselves, but his style of singing if you can call it that makes it difficult. They hold importance in a few parts of some of the songs but these are few and far between. Otherwise the album has a rather irritating fixation with death, hell, whores, etc you get the idea.

All of which might be all right if it sounded like it was being said with some reasoning for today. Instead we are treated to a dictation of ever more repetitive and unimaginative chorus's that make the songs drag on and on, for what seems like eternity.
And the music is not in tune with what is being said, with Rob Zombie seemingly have wanted all the stops pulled out with different effects. Unfortunately this does not add to the album, far from it, with the resulting effect being one of degradation. Because it makes the album feel overtly synchronised, as if it had been organised and structured to a tee. Which makes the feeling of disappointment grow within you when you realise that although it sounds so so in a light metal way, that this is by no means sufficient.

That if he was going to make this much trouble over an album then surely he could have experimented, made something a little less manufactured. Apparently not. The sort of album that's worth listening to a couple of times or to lose yourself in the instrumentals, but no doubt those lyrics will stop you finishing it before long.
